Luke and Kevin live as part of an intentional Christian community on 17th Street in Kansas City, KS. As a community they read and study the Gospels, pray, share meals, and play together. As a community they hold all their resources in common and open their extra space for hospitality to families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Luke was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. He received his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 2003 from Texas A&M University and was a civilian Flight Test Engineer for the U.S. Air Force for 2.5 years. After hearing the call to leave everything behind to follow Jesus, he quit his job and received his M.Div. from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Since May 2010, he has lived, worked, and served in KCK as “worker-priest” and urban missionary. He has also worked in urban gardening and is the author of “Follow Me”: The Way of Jesus According to the Gospel of Mark and “Father, Into Your Hands”: The Way of Jesus According to the Gospel of Luke-Acts. His beautiful and intelligent wife, Julie Ann, teaches kindergarten at Banneker Elementary in KCK.

Kevin is a Lutheran educator from Minnesota who has spent a couple decades as a teacher of middle-schoolers and as a principal, but now heads up the outreach of St. Luke’s to the immediate neighborhood. Kevin received his bachelor’s degree from Concordia University in Wisconsin and got his master’s degree from North Texas University. Kevin and his wonderful wife, Lisa, have three children, Micah, Morgan, and Marcus.

Mike first came to St. Luke’s as a vicar in 1969, and was associate pastor and senior pastor of St. Luke’s for 42 combined years. During his ministry Mike was instrumental in St. Luke’s reaching out to the surrounding neighborhoods and inner city and helped with the development of Riverview Health Services and Metro Lutheran Ministries (MLM). He has been a volunteer chaplain for the Police/Fire/Sheriff’s Departments since 1980. Mike is married to Judy, a social worker (LMSW), and together they have three children (Bob, Steve, and Chris) and five grandchildren (Vince, Morgan, Bernie, Maddy, and Stella). Now retired, Mike continues to help with pastoral care, mentoring of the young guys, and whatever other various tasks need taking care of.
